September 2, 2017 – San Remo Ballroom in Carlton saw a beautiful and fun filled gathering of Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT) students, alumni, partners, staff and families. The annual MIT Spring Ball 2017 with the theme of Casino Royale, welcoming spring, was organised by the MIT's Office of Student Services and Engagement.

The event began with MIT General Manager Mr. Austin Kijagulu acknowledging the traditional owners of the land past, present and future and welcoming all who were present. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was the ever beautiful School of Business Head of School, Ms. Kristina Nicholls.

Amongst the present were MIT and Federation University students currently studying at Melbourne campus, MIT alumni with some who graduated back in 1996. Also, present were MIT partners and friends like FedUni representatives, Brougham Press, a CPA representative, ACS representatives, and sponsors from Nando's Melbourne Central.

Participants were constantly engaged with the Selfie Competition, trivia, prize draws and 007 themed music. Some of the prizes included gift hampers, a spa and relaxation afternoon from the Langham Hotel, a three month subscription to Fitness First Melbourne Central, and the most eyed and coveted prize, an overnight stay at Novotel Geelong with a view of the ocean and an overnight stay at the Grand Hyatt in a Grand King room with free continental breakfast.

Students and staff alike competed in the competition with photos being posted in MIT Spring ball Facebook page. However, the star event of the evening was the “Ladies Choice” dance with female guests asking a partner to dance!

The dance filled event would not have been possible without all who were present. MIT’s Office of Student Services and Engagement team would like to thank all who attended, as well as all sponsors, including, Fitness First Australia for donating a 3 month membership and sports bag, Nando's Melbourne Central for the $1,000 in gift vouchers, Klik Cafe for donating $100 in gift vouchers to the selfie competition winners, as well as The Novotel Geelong and The Grand Hyatt Melbourne, the two major event sponsors, for their luxurious "Weekend-For-Two Getaway Packages", valued at AUD $500 each.

When asked about the event, “We cannot wait to do it again next year!”, exclaimed Ms. Effie Evryniadis, Associate Director Student Services and Engagement.
