Sushila Moktan Tamang

1.  What are you currently studying at MIT and what year?

I am enrolled in Masters in Professional Accounting at MIT Federation University.

2. What is your team called?

The name of my team is UFC (United Football Club) Women's team.

3. What motivated you to join the futsal team and how long have you been playing in the team for?

At first, I was very scared if I could play well or not.  But later, all my sisters encouraged me to play futsal and gave me the confidence that even I can be a great player if I am determined and passionate about futsal.

I have been playing for this team for over 3 months now.

4. How do you balance your studies at MIT, other work commitments and your involvement in the team?

Since, I am an international student, I have some work commitments so sometimes it seems difficult to have a balance between studies, work and futsal practices /matches. But I believe by managing the time effectively and knowing what’s more important I have been able to manage everything.

5. How often do you train?

We train every Sunday from 3pm-6pm. And we have our tournament matches every Thursday night.

6. How have the tournaments been going?

The tournaments have been going well. Each tournament gives us positive vibes, new confidence and aspire us to do better everytime.

7. Are you open to having more players join? If yes, how can students contact you to express their interest?

Our team is always ready for newcomers as we always try to encourage new girls to come and join our team. If any student likes to join our team, then they will be heartily welcomed, they can contact any of our team members and easily become a part of it.

8. What do you love about being a part of team?

What I love most about being a part of the team is the bond all the team members have, not only in the ground but also outside. I always get to learn new things from my sisters. And being the youngest player, everyone supports me and guides me whenever necessary.

9. What skills and abilities have you developed by being in the team?

I have learned so many things from the UFC team and got to know many new people. I was able to develop my confidence level only by being a part of this team. It helped me to get a better focus in life and taught me that to achieve something we have to try harder without giving up.

Unisha Gurung

1 . What are you currently studying at MIT and what year?

I am enrolled as a student of Federation university and currently studying Bachelor of IT.

2. What is your team called?

The name of my Futsal team is United Football Club (UFC).

3. What motivated you to join the futsal team and how long have you been playing in the team for?

I was not a sporty person back then, after coming to Australia as I was totally new to the country, my cousin sister asked me to join her team so I could make some new friends and enjoy my free time. After playing for a week, I became more confident and felt happier which made me want to play more. The encouragement and friendly environment created by the team members and coach motivated me to play as a part of the team.

4. How do you balance your studies at MIT, other work commitments and your involvement in the team?

Being an international student, you have to manage your schedule between your class, work and Futsal practices. It was so much fun to play that I got addicted to it. I always prioritize and stick to deadlines when it comes to studies and manage my spare time well for my training and matches.

5. How often do you train?

We have our trainings on Sundays from 3pm -6pm and sometimes we also do some trainings one day before the futsal match.

6. How have the tournaments been going?

At first, we didn't have much experience playing futsal so we couldn't preform well. But I think our results are getting better every week and we are trying our best to do better.

7. Are you open to having more players join? If yes, how can students contact you to express their interest?

We are ever ready to welcome anyone who enjoy playing futsal and tries to be part of a team. It's really easy to join our team as you can simply share your interest to any team member of UFC and tell her that you want to join. Then you will be introduced to other team members of UFC and you can start coming to our trainings and matches.

8. What do you love about being a part of team?

What I love the most, is the way we motivate each other to play better and enjoy ourselves while playing, how we can rely on each other, memories we create and helping each other not only in the game but in other things too. It's more like a family /sisterhood and that's the best part of being in a team.

9. What skills and abilities have you developed by being in the team?

Because of the team, I have built my confidence level and made connections with more people. Being an active team player has made me physically and mentally fit. I have learnt how to fit into a team, understand and coordinate well with others and mostly have a reason to enjoy my life in a foreign country.
