Doug Grant is an Emeritus Professor at Swinburne University of Technology, having previously been the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of ICT, Head of the Schools of IT and Computer Science & Software Engineering, and Head of the Department of Computer Science. He spent some time at MIT in 2011 in the role of Provost, since renamed Academic Director.

Having concluded his full-time academic career, Doug is now involved in a wide variety of academic and governance roles. As a committed educator, he still teaches, most recently in cryptography at Deakin University. He has chaired the Professional Standards Board of the Australian Computer Society, and subsequently was Vice President of the Society with oversight of professional standards and professional development. He regularly chairs program accreditation panels for the ACS, and has on a number of occasions chaired departmental review panels at various universities.

He has recently been involved on the academic board and as chair of the IT course development committee of a new private higher education institution based in Sydney, in which role he was primarily responsible for the design of a new bachelor degree program in IT.

In the community, Doug has been a member of the Board of Directors for Bellarine Community Health, the main provider of primary care community health services on the Bellarine Peninsula, and chaired the Board in 2017.
