Accept Your Offer (International students)

Congratulations on receiving an offer in your chosen course. The next step is to accept your offer and commence studies at MIT. Please complete the following steps to accept your Offer.

Step 1: Understanding your Offer

1.1 Conditional Offers

If you received conditional offer, you are required to meet the conditions stated on your letter of Offer to enrol in your chosen course. Conditional Offer examples include:

  • English Language conditions such as IELTS, TOFEL, TWE, etc.
  • Academic transcript(s) and course completion certificate(s) from previous studies.

Note: Do not accept and pay your tuition fee without meeting conditions stated on your Offer; however, exception may apply to students with package offers e.g. Diploma leading to Bachelor, Graduate Diploma leading to Master Degree.

You can however, pay your tuition fee and submit the documents stated on your conditional offer at the same time. Students with package offers i.e. Diploma leading to Bachelor and Graduate Diploma leading to Master degree are required to pay a deposit of A$1000 towards next program to receive package eCoEs.

1.2 Credit Transfer /Advanced Standing/Exemptions

If you have received Credit Transfer, this will be indicated on your offer. Credit transfer may lead towwards shortening of the course duration. The course duration is calculated on the basis of approved credits.

Detailed information regarding Credit Transfer is available at the time of enrolment. You will need to bring original or certified copies of your academic transcript(s), course content(s), and subject/unit outline(s) or syllabus during enrolment session to confirm Credit Transfer. Credit Transfer will not be approved if these conditions are not being met.

If you have not applied for Credit Transfer at the time of admission, you will need to bring the following documents with you at the time of Enrolment.

1.3 Tuition fees and deposit

Tuition fees and charges are indicated on your Offer. Fees are calculated on the basis of study- load. Study-loads are determined by the unit weightings (EFTSL) as determined by MIT. As an international student, you are required to pay your first semester tuition fees as indicated on your offer.

Please note you are required to submit the Offer Acceptance Form before or at the time of fee payment.

1.4 Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

OSHC is compulsory to all students and accompanying dependents that are coming to Australia. Please note it is your responsibility to renew the cover after the first period expires. OSHC provides medical and hospital cover for international students and their dependants. For full list of OSHC charges and types, please go to BUPA website.

Step 2: Read 'Fee Payment and Refund Terms'

Fee Payment and Refund Terms are also enclosed with your letter of Offer and you must read it prior to submitting an Offer Acceptance Form.

Step 3: Download and complete the 'Offer Acceptance Form'

Download Offer Acceptance Form (MIT programs)-to be completed by students admitting into MIT programs.

Download International Student Agreement Form (UB programs)-to be completed by students admitting into University of Ballarat programs at MIT Melbourne and Syndey campus.

Step 4: Deposit your tuition fee

As an international student, you are required to deposit first semester tuition fee and other applicable fees and charges indicated on your letter of offer.

4.1 Fee payment method (MIT programs)

Fees for MIT programs are payable in cash, credit card, money order, bank cheque, bank draft, netbank transfer and telex transfer. Bank cheques/drafts and money orders must be made out to Melbourne Institute of Technology.

4.1.2 Telex transfer

Telex transfer of funds should be done by filling in the‘Telex Transfer Annexture Form – MIT Prospective Students’ and giving it to the bank. The form contains the bank account details and necessary instructions.

4.2 Fee payment method (University of Ballarat programs)

Fees for Undergraduate and Postgraduate (University of Ballarat) programs are payable by credit card, money order, bank cheque, bank draft and telex transfer (but not netbank transfer). Bank cheques/drafts and money orders must be made out to University of Ballarat.

4.2.1 Telex transfer

Telex transfer of funds should be done by filling in the ‘Telex Transfer Annexture Form – UB Prospective Students’ and giving it to the bank. The form contains the bank account details and necessary instructions.

4.3 Important notes:
  • Please add $15 to cover bank charges incurred in Australia
  • Please ensure that Offer Letter Reference Number is mentioned correctly in the relevant field of the Telex Transfer form.
  • Notify Accounts Department by email or fax once the payment has been transferred. Attach the bank advice for funds transfer.

Step 5: eCoE certificate

If you are an offshore international student from Assessment Level 1 or 2 country, we will send your CoE to you or your nominated representative in your home country after receiving the following documents:

Offshore international students from Assessment Level 3, 4 and 5 countries are required to submit an evidence of e-Visa or Pre-visa including above documents.

You will need to submit the eCoE to DIAC or the Australian Diplomatic Mission where you are applying for your student visa.

If you are an onshore international student, you can get your eCoE in person or by email after submitting above documents to Admissions & Enrolments.

Step 6: Applying for a Student Visa

6.1 General visa requirements

• You will need a valid Student Visa to study in Australia
• Students applying for a Student Visa must enroll in course(s) that are registered with Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)
• You must maintain full-time enrolment while you are on a Student Visa
• You must maintain satisfactory attendance in your course and course progress for each study period as required by MIT
• You must notify MIT of any changes in your residential address within seven days of the change
• Your student visa automatically grants permission to work for 20 hours during semester and unlimited hours when the course is not in session
• You must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance during your stay in Australia.

The Australian government has assigned countries into Assessment Levels (Als). There are five Assessment Levels in the Student Visa program. Visa application process for each Assessment Level is different. Detailed information on how your country assessment level is determined, visit the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website.

DIAC is responsible to grant or extend a student visa for students studying in Australia. You will need an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) and the documents stated on the Visa Application Document Checklists to apply or extend student visa. Step 7: Pre-Departure Guide

After accepting an offer, we strongly recommend that you read our Pre-departure Guide published on our website.  This guide provides detailed information about your trip to Australia, living in Australia and most importantly student life at MIT.

Step 8: Participate in O-week

Orientation week or O-week is a great way to make new friends and meet staff at MIT. It is designed to help new students adapt academically, socially and culturally in Australia. All international students are required to attend O-week unless unable to arrive in Australia due to delay in visa processing.

O-week consists of official events such as registration, enrolment and information sessions on housing, employment, study skills, work visa, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), as well as activities such as campus tour, city tour, games.

8.1 Enrolment session

Following steps must be completed prior to attending Enrolment session:

1. Registration session
2. Academic and enrolment information session
3. Student ID card and resource account session

The Enrolment session allows you to meet academic staff at MIT. During this session, you can get information about your course, course structure, units and timetable. Please make an appointment during registration to avoid delays. There will be longer waiting period for students without an appointment.

Please bring the following on enrolment day:

  • Your passport and visa page of your passport or e-visa copy
  • 1 passport size photograph
  • Your Confirmation of Enrolment certificate and letter of Offer
  • A pen
