Melbourne Institute of Technology - The Official Graduation Party
Thursday 10 December at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, was the date and venue for the 2009 Graduation Ceremony for MIT students. This was the first full-scale Graduation Ceremony for postgraduate students held by the Melbourne Institute of Technology and it marked a new chapter in the MIT story.
MIT has delivered fully accredited Higher Education courses in its own name and with its own awards for the past five years. This period has seen many students from overseas and Australia complete tertiary courses in Business and Information Technology disciplines. Many of these students have since obtained satisfying professional employment in Australia or back home in their own countries. A number have also gone onto further studies.
The MIT Graduation Ceremony on 10 December gave the opportunity for more than 30 postgraduate students to take out their degrees. 39 students graduated in person, with another 24 graduating in absentia. The graduates were resplendent in their academic gowns and over 200 family and friends looking on shared the experience with their loved ones.
The graduates were welcomed and congratulated by the MIT Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shesh Ghale on their significant achievement.
“I am pleased to share this very important day with us to help our graduands, who are all sitting before me to celebrate their significant achievements”, Mr. Ghale said.
“We dare you as Graduates of Melbourne Institute of Technology to set forth in the world, heads held high and challenge in your hearts; to use the skills and knowledge you have acquired for the advancement of your chosen profession and the community generally; to make us proud and to uphold the good name of Melbourne Institute of Technology; that you enjoy the fruits of your hard labor to bring you happiness and to give you a good life; to keep in touch with MIT as your life and career develop.”
Ms Ayesha Vaaz, representing the graduands, in her speech, responded to the Graduate Challenge posed by the MIT Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shesh Ghale.
Chief Guest, Mr. Des Pearson, the Attorney General of Victoria congratulated the graduands with an inspiring address.
The formal Conferring of Awards was jointly conducted by the two senior MIT academics Ms. Marcia O’Neill, Head of the School of Business and Dr. Elizabeth A. Kendall, Head of the School of Information Technology.
In a musical interlude, graduates, staff, and guests were treated to some excellent singing by one of Melbourne’s top soloists, Mr. Martin Lane.
