Compulsory Orientation

Orientation program is held before each semester, and is designed to help you, as a new student, with adjusting to studying and life at MIT.

The program provides you with an overview of campus facilities, resources, services and support available to you during your time at MIT. It also provides you with vital information about your course of study, and assistance with enrolling in your units and creating a timetable.

If you are an International student, the program also provides you with information about your legislative obligations in regards to your student visa, assistance and information in regards to your health cover, working, travelling and living in Australia.

The program also gives you the opportunity to meet other students and make new friends. Orientation is compulsory for all new students.

Personal counselling

Studying in a new environment can be challenging, and sometimes life itself can be challenging. Counselling can provide an opportunity to better understand your situation and explore the possibilities for bringing about positive change.

Our counsellors are available to provide confidential assistance and psychological support with a wide range of personal or welfare matters affecting your study and life.

Academic support

Study skills program

We are aware that students sometimes have difficulty in getting on track and knowing what the best practice is to produce high quality assignments and obtain good grades.

The Study Skills Program can help you understand academic expectations and improve your skills and techniques needed to achieve your academic goals. Various areas of study are covered by the program, including: best study practice, referencing, report writing, essay writing, paraphrasing, plagiarism, grammar, oral presentations, researching effectively, time management, exam preparation and overall strategies for understanding concepts and applying them successfully. The program is run throughout the semester and is available free of charge to all students.

Academic Management System (AMS)

As an MIT student you will have access to AMS, which provides access to information and functionalities in regards to enrolments, timetable, examinations, results and various other study and campus matters.

Careers support

MITRA

Employment preparation should go hand in hand with your academic development, in order to maximise the opportunity of getting the best possible job upon graduation.

Through MITRA – the MIT Recruitment Agency, your career development begins from day one. Career counsellors are committed in helping you make a successful transition from study to employment. MITRA services is free of charge and include career counselling, job search assistance, resume and interview skills training and professional skills development workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.

Internship program

Internships provides you with an opportunity to form industry links and gain real world experience related to your field of study, thus enhancing your employment prospects.

All students studying at MIT are given the opportunity to participate in the MIT Internship Program. MIT has internships agreement with various organisations and we will assist you to secure an appropriate placement.

Overseas Student Health Cover

It is mandatory for all International student visa holders, and their dependants, to maintain OSHC throughout the duration of their study in Australia.

MIT OSHC is arranged through BUPA. A BUPA representative is available on campus to assist international students with OSHC claims, renewals and queries.

Student activities

The Student Services Department runs a number of recreational events for students to attend throughout the year. These events are a great way to meet other students and make new friends while having fun.
