Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting)
Course objectives
The primary objective of this course is to enable students whose first degree is in a non-accounting field to undertake a professional career in accounting (and/or related fields, such as finance). The primary focus of this course is to enable students to obtain proficiency in the ‘core curriculum in accounting and business areas’ and ‘generic skills’ specified in the accreditation guidelines issued by CPA Australia.

Career opportunities
Graduates may be employed in a wide variety of commercial, government and professional settings. These include public accounting, banking, teaching, government organisations, stock broking, business consulting, and the retailing, manufacturing and mining industries.
Functional responsibilities include accounting, information systems analysis and design, financial reporting, cost accounting, finance, taxation, audit, financial planning and general management responsibilities.
Professional recognition
The program is accredited by CPA Australia (see www.cpaaustralia.com.au) and IPA - Institute of Public Accountants (see http://www.publicaccountants.org.au). Upon successful completion of the program graduates will be eligible to apply for associate membership of both CPA and IPA
