Course description

Course objectives

The Master of Information Technology is designed for people who have a Bachelor degree in an area other than Computing or Information Technology.

The Master of Information Technology is a coursework degree which introduces students to advanced theoretical and practical concepts. There is an in-depth approach to programming, project management skills and software engineering.

On completion of this course students should:

  • have programming skills required to design and implement complex computer systems;
  • be aware of the latest developments in IT;
  • be familiar with project management principles and techniques;
  • be able to analyse, design and implement software systems, including functional, relational and object-oriented methodologies;
  • have an understanding of the theoretical basis of Information Technology;
  • have good written and oral communication skills; and
  • demonstrate an awareness of ethical and social issues associated with IT implementations.

Career opportunities

Graduates may expect to work in any area of industry, commerce or government. Possible career paths include software engineering, systems analysis, programming, networking, database analysis, system management, and web engineering.

Entry requirements and application

Academic requirements

As a minimum, applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree, equivalent to an Australian bachelor degree.

English requirements - International students only

Minimum IELTS 6.0 (Academic) with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.

Credit for prior study

Course credit may be available, for relevant studies at Australian universities, to a maximum of 8 units.
