8 Ways to Entertain Yourself During Quarantine or Self-Isolation

  1. Phone a friend – Text, Call, Facetime, Zoom or Skype a friend or loved one! This could also be a great time to reconnect with someone you might have lost contact with – It’s more than likely that many people are feeling disconnected or lonely – why not reach out to a long lost pal?
  2. Read that book you’ve had on your bookshelf since 2006 – Now is a fantastic time to pick up a good book and relax.
  3. Work out at home – Calf raises on the steps, pushups in the hallway, planks in the bedroom, star jumps in the kitchen…Get creative and start focusing on your health. With some commitment and perseverance, you might even come out of isolation looking and feeling fitter than you have ever been before!
  4. Watch a TV series your friend recommended (But you never quite got around to) – Now is the time to indulge – binge and enjoy paid and unpaid streaming services. You might find that these popular programs are worth your time: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Black Mirror, Keeping up With The Kardashians, Married at First Sight, Shameless or Love Is Blind.
  5. Write a Poem, Song or Novel! Now is a fantastic time to get creative, dust off your notebook and put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard). Self-expression is powerful, even if you don’t have an audience of millions to see your masterpiece. Sharing creative work with friends and family can be extremely fulfilling and a healthy way to outlet things you might be feeling during these uncertain times.
  6. Cook – Lots of people say ‘I’m not a very good cook’ – so what better way to improve on your cooking skills than by watching a Youtube Tutorial on how to make your favourite Uber Eats dish. You could even use that Cookbook you got for Christmas and follow a recipe. If you have a little bit of experience in the kitchen, you could challenge yourself by trying to prepare something delicious with what you have in your cupboards already! Have fun with it, you are the head chef now!
  7. Interact with Nature – Stage 3 restrictions allow for exercise in an outdoor environment too, so what better time to explore nature close to your home. Be sure to do so at a distance from others whilst adventuring – so think of this as a solo adventure. You can use google maps to locate the perfect spot or ask a friend. Lace up your runners, put your adventurer’s music on and go for it! Bring your phone along and make sure to take a picture for Instagram or Facebook…Because everybody loves seeing nature posts on their newsfeed – positive vibes!
  8. Re-activate your Online Game Subscription – Gamers worldwide may not have even noticed that isolation is going on in various parts of the world. Gaming is a great way to get involved in a new community and do something purely for fun! Whether you have a Play Station 4, Xbox, PC or mobile device– all platforms have access to an almost infinite amount of games. It might even be time to dust off your old Play Station 2 or Nintendo 64 and start feeling those nostalgia vibes! Gaming is a great way to temporarily escape the stress of Covid-19!
