Homestay

Homestay is a great opportunity for students to experience the Australian culture. Living with a homestay host/family, allows students to improve their English skills and also live the Australian lifestyle.

MIT provides students with a Homestay service, which aligns students with suitable hosts to meet their individual needs. Students will be provided with a fully furnished room, access to the Internet and cooked meals.

Applications for Homestay can be made by emailing a completed Homestay and Airport Pickup Application Form to studentservices@mit.edu.au

If for whatever reason a student finds themselves in a situation within their accommodation setting which causes them extreme stress, fear or injury (i.e.: critical incident), they should contact staff within the Office of Student Services and Engagement at their respective campus:

Airport Pickup

Airport pickup is available to international students arriving in Melbourne, Avalon or Sydney. Applications for this service can be made by lodging the Homestay and Airport Pickup Application Form to studentservices@mit.edu.au

Students will be met at Arrivals and taken to their requested accommodation. A minimum of 10 working days’ notice is required prior to student’s arrival.

Airport pickup is usually undertaken as part of the homestay and airport pick up package; however this service is flexible and available to all International Students.

Skybus

SkyBus offers an express bus service from the airport to the city centre. This service operates 24/7, including most public holidays. Buses run every 10 minutes throughout the day.

You can board SkyBus at either end of the express route:

  • At Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine). They are at terminals T1 (Qantas Domestic and Jetstar Domestic) and T3 (Virgin Australia Domestic Regional Express)
  • In the heart of Melbourne at Southern Cross Station. The SkyBus terminal is on the corner of Bourke and Spencer Streets

Tickets can be purchased on arrival at the bus stop or purchased online at www.skybus.com.au


Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

It is mandatory for all International student visa holders, and their dependants, to maintain OSHC throughout the duration of their study in Australia.

MIT OSHC is arranged through Allianz Global Assistance. All enquires and renewals for Allianz Overseas Student Health covered purchased through MIT can be made at Student Services reception on Level 2M (Melbourne Campus) or Level 7 (Sydney Campus), or by contacting studentservices@mit.edu.au

Change of Residency Status

Students are required to notify Melbourne Institute of Technology of their change in residency status from Temporary Student Visa to Permanent Resident Visa.

Complete and lodge the Request to change residency status form at reception.

Applications lodged after the relevant census date would not affect the fees status until the next teaching period. Refer to key dates for relevant census date.
