The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology will provide you with ICT skills you need to pursue a career in the high in demand field of Information Technology. This course is your first step towards developing your skills and knowledge in Information Technology to improve your future career prospects.
For students who wish to study further, the units you complete within the Graduate Certificate course will qualify you for a full credit transfer into the Master of Networking.
The Master degree provides graduates with an opportunity to enter careers in network and information technology in a broad range of industries.
This course attracts the National Priority Short Courses funding for all three units.
Each unit consists of 20 credit points. A full-time study load is sixty credit points per term. Graduate Certificate in Information Technology (GCIT) is comprised of three core units
Students admitted into the cognate stream based on prior qualifications but wish to enrol in the non-cognate stream may transfer to the non-cognate stream with the written permission of the Course Coordinator.

The Graduate Certificates in Information Technology / Cyber Security and Networking are equivalent to the first semester of the Master of Networking at Melbourne Institute of Technology. After completing a Graduate Certificate in Information Technology or Cyber Security and Networking, you will qualify for a full credit transfer should you wish to apply for entry into the Master of Networking. This is subject to the successful completion of the Graduate Certificate course.
The Master of Networking and the Master of Networking (Major in Cybersecurity) are accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at the Professional Level.
Credit transfer provides students with credit for learning already achieved. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Learn more about credit transfer.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit towards their course based on their prior learning (including formal, informal and non‐formal learning). Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Learn more about Recognition of Prior Learning.

As a result, demand for IT professionals has been increasing every year with growth of roles such as IT technician, technology analyst, help desk analyst, system administrator, system analyst, system developer, technical support specialist, IT administrator, service desk specialist, etc. As of 3rd November 2020, there were 8487 IT jobs advertised on seek.com and 8491 advertised on indeed.com.

In 2021, the Australian Government is providing additional short course Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) for higher education across a range of disciplines. A limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places are available for eligible domestic students.
You must apply for an eligible course by Friday 12th March for March intake 2021 and Friday 2nd July 2021 for July intake. Students must complete the course by December 2021 to be eligible for the free course.
