Professor Savitri Bevinakoppa: A Pillar of Excellence at MIT
Professor Savitri Bevinakoppa, Head of the School of IT and Engineering (SITE) at MIT, has been a valued member of the Institute’s community since 2008. Over the years, she has demonstrated exceptional dedication to academic excellence, innovation and leadership, significantly enriching both the School and the wider Institute.
With more than 36 years of experience spanning academia, research, leadership, and industry, Professor Bevinakoppa is a distinguished expert in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Engineering. She earned her PhD from Victoria University, Melbourne, where her pioneering research on “Still Image Compression on Parallel Computer Architectures” laid a strong foundation for future developments in the field. Her scholarly contributions include numerous books and research publications, as well as leadership roles in multi-disciplinary conferences. She has also successfully secured competitive industry grants.
At MIT, Professor Bevinakoppa has played a pivotal role in shaping and delivering curricula across various domains, including Engineering, Networking, Cybersecurity, and Data Analytics. Her course designs have consistently promoted academic rigor and practical relevance.
Beyond the classroom, she has been instrumental in enhancing student success and institutional quality. She has held several key roles, such as Course Coordinator for the Master of Networking, Chair of the Course Progress Review Committee and Chair of Professional Development and Scholarships. Additionally, she has actively served on numerous strategic committees, contributing to the Institute’s governance and continuous improvement.
