Designing and delivering stimulating learning experiences through explicit and inquiry approaches lies at the heart of Dr Dimuthu Ekanayake’s professional identity. Informed by her Scholarship of Teaching and Learning research, she embraces curiosity, innovation, and reflective practice and ongoing professional growth.
Dimuthu holds a PhD in Accounting Education from Victoria University, along with a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from prestigious state universities in Sri Lanka. Her academic qualifications are further complemented by a postgraduate tertiary teaching qualification, the Certificate of Teaching and Learning, completed at Torrens University.
Dimuthu commenced her teaching career in 2000 as a high school Accounting and Business Studies teacher at Gateway College, Sri Lanka, preparing students for Cambridge and Edexcel examinations. Following her move to Australia, she transitioned into the tertiary education sector, serving as a Sessional Lecturer in Financial Accounting and International Banking and Finance, as well as a Research Assistant at Victoria University. With extensive experience in higher education, Dimuthu has specialised in lecturing and coordinating a wide range of Accounting subjects across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. She has held Senior Lecturer positions at Melbourne Institute of Technology, Torrens University, and Group Colleges Australia, contributing to academic excellence, curriculum development, and student success.
Throughout her professional career, Dimuthu has held a range of executive and academic leadership positions within the higher education sector. She served as Discipline Leader (Undergraduate Accounting) at Torrens University and Melbourne Institute of Technology, providing strategic leadership in curriculum development, academic quality, and student success. She has also contributed to institutional governance through her membership on various boards and committees, including the Executive Leadership Team at the Group Colleges Australia, the Academic Professional Development Steering Group at Torrens University, and the Academic Board at Melbourne Institute of Technology. Prior to returning to Melbourne Institute of Technology as a Senior Lecturer, she held the roles of Head of Accounting Discipline and Student Success Manager at Group Colleges Australia.
Dimuthu’s research interests are strongly informed by the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, with a particular focus on pedagogical innovation, student engagement, academic integrity, and contemporary higher education practices. She has published in international peer-reviewed journals, with her most recent contribution being a book chapter on “Adopting HyFlex Learning in Australian Higher Education”, In Pedagogical Innovation Through Technology-Enhanced Learning Design. She has also presented at numerous international and local education conferences. Her recent conference presentation explored the integration of technologically enhanced multimodal learning environments within the Australian higher education sector, reflecting her commitment to innovative and student-centred teaching practices.
Through a student-centred and collaborative approach, Dimuthu is passionate about transforming and enriching students’ lives by fostering lifelong learning, personal growth, and intuition’s success.
