John is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University, where he was co-leader of the Computing Education Research Group in the Faculty of IT. This group has undertaken several IT education projects, including the exploration of on-line, real time mechanisms for data gathering and analysis of student-teacher interactions. He was Associate Dean (Teaching) for the faculty, and served a term as President of the Academic Board of Monash University. He is actively involved with the Professional Education Governance Board for ACS, and takes part in regular university accreditations for the ACS.
