What is ANZAC Day?
ANZAC Day, observed on 25 April each year, marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I—the landing at Gallipoli in 1915. Though the campaign ended in hardship, the bravery and camaraderie displayed by the ANZACs left a lasting legacy, shaping the national identity of both nations.
Today, ANZAC Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices of all servicemen and women who have defended our freedoms, as well as those who continue to serve. On this solemn day, we come together to honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) who served and fell in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
How We Remember
- Dawn Services: Held at war memorials across the country, these solemn ceremonies symbolise the quiet moments before battle.
- The Last Post & Minute of Silence: A tribute to the fallen.
- Laying of Wreaths: Honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
- ANZAC Biscuits & Rosemary: Traditional symbols of remembrance.
"Lest We Forget"
As we pause to reflect, we remember not only the ANZACs of Gallipoli but all who have served with courage and dedication. Their legacy lives on in the values of mateship, resilience, and unity that define our nations.
Join us in paying tribute—whether by attending a local service, wearing a poppy, having a piece of Anzac Biscuits or taking a moment to reflect on the cost of freedom.
We will remember them.
