Melbourne Institute of Technology launches Equity and Access Scholarships to empower domestic students.

Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT), in partnership with the MIT Australian Foundation Ltd, is proud to announce the launch of its MIT Australian Foundation’s Equity and Access Scholarships, aimed at easing access barriers and support students facing educational disadvantage. 

These scholarships,  reflect MIT’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and providing an avenue for all students to flourish and achieve their academic and career aspirations.

Scholarship highlights

Two tailored programs:

  • Equity Scholarships: For students experiencing financial hardship, regional/remote challenges, Indigenous Australian status, disability, or other systemic disadvantages.
  • Merit Scholarships: Recognising academic excellence, leadership, and community engagement.

Financial support: Scholarships cover tuition fees and provide additional assistance to ensure students can focus on their studies.

Who can apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be Australian/NZ citizens or permanent residents.
  • Enrol full-time at MIT.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Meet academic admission requirements.

Equity Scholarship applicants must also demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrated financial hardship (e.g., Centrelink benefits, income statements, or other proof of financial disadvantage).
  • Residency in a regional or remote area (ASGC-RA classification).
  • Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Disability or long-term medical condition.
  • First-in-family to attend university.
What does the scholarship provide?

Recipients of the MIT Australian Foundation’s Equity and Access Scholarships will receive financial assistance to help cover the cost of tuition and other study-related expenses. The amount awarded will be determined based on the student’s individual circumstances and the availability of funding.

How to apply?

Applying for the Equity and Access Scholarship is simple. Follow these steps:

  • Prepare your documents – Gather academic transcripts, proof of identity and residency, a 500–800 word impact statement, and supporting evidence of financial hardship or other educational disadvantages.
  • Submit your application – Complete the online application form and upload your supporting documents. Applications for the upcoming trimester close two weeks before enrolment starts.
  • Application review – The Scholarship Committee will assess all applications and notify successful applicants.
