MIT has successfully transitioned to online study during the Covid-19 epidemic. MIT students are now studying online, which for some; can be a little bit tricky. Keep in mind, that for future employment, studying online demonstrates a capacity to be self-motivated and work independently. Future employers often view this as a tremendous advantage over others applicants for a position, as you have actively demonstrated a willingness to engage with a modern learning space. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of this virtual experience.
- Set up a dedicated study space in your home – try to make sure it’s private and has access to all the things you need to study effectively
- Create a study plan to stay on track – take note of class, lecture and independent/group study times
- Utilize online study resources: coursework, discussion groups, library resources and Lecturer and Tutor communication
- Reward your efforts of engagement – online study requires discipline, make sure you take regular breaks and enjoy your time online and offline
- Use the money you may save from not having to travel to MIT and buying lunch etc. to save for a rainy day, enhance your study space or purchase text books
- Engage with Moodle! Explore, check for updates and engage with the online learning space
- Take notes during online lectures – don’t just listen – write down key points and concepts
- Avoid online distractions – stay engaged with study for the duration you have set aside, don’t be tempted to interrupt your valuable study time until you are taking a scheduled break
