At MIT, we know that employers are looking for more than a degree. That’s why Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is part of every undergraduate and postgraduate course. You won’t just study theory – you’ll apply it in real-world settings, helping you graduate with the confidence and experience to take the next step in your career.
See WIL in action
Hear from our students as they share how Work-Integrated Learning helped them apply their skills in real industry environments.
What is WIL?
WIL gives you the opportunity to apply what you learn in class to real situations. This might include internships, industry-linked projects, simulations, or capstone experiences. These activities are part of your course and contribute to academic credit.
Learning through real projects
At MIT, you’ll work on real challenges faced by real organisations. Past students have helped develop bushfire early warning systems, designed health monitoring tools for COVID-19 patients, and created smart technologies to support aged care. These projects show how your studies can make a real impact.
Working with others – just like in the real world
Many projects involve collaboration across different study areas. You’ll work with students from business, IT or engineering, depending on your project – just like you would in the workplace. It’s a valuable way to build your communication and teamwork skills while learning from different perspectives.
Impactful learning experiences
Since 2018, Work-Integrated Learning has been embedded across all MIT courses. These projects aren’t add-ons – they’re a core part of your degree and your academic progress.
Real projects, real outcomes
At MIT, our students don’t just learn in the classroom – they work on real projects that make a difference. Through work-integrated learning, they’ve tackled industry challenges ranging from improving wildlife access to developing public health solutions.
Here are some of the real outcomes our students have delivered through hands-on experience with industry partners.
