Student Feedback

Collecting and acting on student feedback is at the core of MIT’s Practice.

MIT aims to continually enhance student learning and development, leading to an improved educational experience. MIT management and leaders include students in the governance and decision-making processes in the Institute. MIT’s Student Experience Committee has student representatives from both campuses and other students’ representation on the Academic Board. Students are also represented on the Course Advisory Committee and the Students & Staff Consultative Committees.

Student Advocacy is also in the forefront of MIT consideration and a service to aid this is located on each Campus.

To this end, MIT encourages its students, graduates, and employers alike to undertake internal and external surveys such as:

Students are also encouraged to provide online feedback at any time.

This includes:

  • Compliments: A compliment is a positive experience, expression of praise, congratulation, encouragement or a favourable opinion.
  • General Feedback:General feedback may not be a compliment but may not be a complaint. Feedback can be positive or negative about learning experiences, student life or related institute operations.
  • Complaints: A complaint might relate to any act, behaviour, omission; situation or decision directly impacting on the student; and the student believes it to be unfair or unjustified resulting in an adverse experience for the student. This also includes discrimination and sexual harassment.

Note: This form is not used for appeals.

Process

MIT Policy

MIT adheres to the appropriate Policy and Procedure for each submission; examples are:

  • Equal Opportunity Policy and Procedure: For complaints of unlawful discrimination and bullying by staff or students.
  • Academic Appeals Policy and Procedure: For complaints relating to Admissions, credit, course progress warnings and enrolment matters.
  • Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Response Policy and Procedure: For complaints relating to sexual harassment.
  • Student Complaints and Grievances Policy and Procedure: For all other complaints.
