Welcome To MIT

Orientation

Attending MIT’s on-campus compulsory orientation program is essential to the wellbeing and academic success of all new students. Orientation programs are held the week prior to the start of each trimester and are designed to help students adjust to living and studying in Australia.

MIT’s orientation program runs over a number of days and provides you with vital information in the areas listed below:

  • program and subjects;
  • health and safety, both on and off-campus;
  • accommodation and renting;
  • academic and support services; and
  • work rights and responsibilities.

In addition, you will also meet staff and find out about the range of essential support services available to assist your transition into study including the Academic Support Centre, Advocacy Unit, Careers Services, Counselling Unit, Library and IT Help Desk.

From Day 1 of the program, a free afternoon of activities is always on offer and this is a way to meet classmates and make some lifelong friends.

MIT’s Buddy Program

As a new student, you will be matched-up with a senior Buddy who will help make your transition into MIT as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. This meet up could be over a weekly coffee or chat, and is for the first four weeks of the trimester.

Peer Student Mentor Program

Having a peer role model who can assist you with how to increase your chances of achieving academic success, is a great way to learn and adjust to study at MIT. MIT’s Peer Mentoring provides new students with Mentors who do just that; they assist students into adapting to a new academic environment faster.
