Welcome to Melbourne Institute of Technology (MIT)-or just MIT, as we like to call it!

Your MIT orientation is all about helping you get to know MIT and your course and explore everything MIT has to offer.
O Week starts the week before your classes start. During orientation, you’ll get all the important details about your course, meet your teachers and our support staff, and get a feel for your study expectations. It's all about settling in, having fun, and becoming part of the MIT community.

What to expect during orientation week

Your Orientation Week starts a week before your classes start. You will

  • Discover the support services
  • Meet current students and get paired with a buddy
  • Get to know your surroundings with a campus tour
  • Enrol in units and receive your timetable
  • Meet the academic and administrative staff who will support you as you choose units
  • Receive your Student ID card

What to bring on orientation day

  • Confirmation of Enrolments (CoE)
  • Original or certified copy of Passport.

Please bring the mentioned documents with you on the orientation day. Without these, you may not be able to attend orientation.

O'Week at a glance

Day 1

O'Week Day 1 at MIT Melbourne offers a packed schedule, starting with registration and a welcome from the Campus Director. Students will explore key services like library access, IT systems, and academic support, followed by a workshop on academic integrity. After a lunch break there will be school and course overviews, a Q&A session, and an introduction to online enrolment.

Day 2

O'Week Day 2 at MIT Melbourne focuses on student safety, with a series of external presentations. Topics include tenancy law and work rights, beach safety, safety tips from Victoria Police, and an overview of Overseas Student Health Cover by Allianz Care. These sessions provide essential information to help international students navigate life in Victoria safely and effectively. After Lunch our enrolment team will help students with facilitated enrolments.

Day 3

O'Week Day 3 at MIT Melbourne our Enrolments Team will be helping students with facilitated enrolment which ensures students are set for a successful semester ahead with personalized guidance. On the other hand we will be taking students to The Melbourne City Tour explores iconic landmarks like Federation Square, Hosier Lane, and the State Library, with a stop for lunch at Queen Victoria Market where student will have opportunity to network with senior Buddies and staff along their exciting day of Discovering Melbourne City.

MIT Melbourne campus is located at the historical - Argus Building at 288 La Trobe Street, on the corner of Elizabeth and La Trobe Streets. Entrance is via the La Trobe Street side.

The MIT Sydney campus is located in Sydney’s Central Business District (CBD) next to Darling Harbour, one of the city’s largest shopping, food and entertainment precincts. Located right in the heart of the City on Sussex Street, easily accessible by train- we are a few minutes’ walk from Wynyard and Town Hall stations.

Academic Services

Located on level 6, our Academic Services Team (Helen, Maddie, Krystal and Wafaa) can assist you with booking an appointment with your lecturer, special consideration enquiries and issues with Moodle.

Health and Wellbeing

Our qualified counselling team provide free, confidential support to students. If you are facing difficulties that may affect your studies, or you just wish to have a chat about how you’re going, book an appointment with the team via email.

Centre of Learning

The ​Centre of Learning (CoL)​ offers a broad range of support services to enrich the learning and teaching experience at MIT. All aspects of the journey towards academic success are encompassed by our operations, such as face-to-face tutoring, examination preparation and the delivery of workshops to build competence in language and literacy skills. For more information on the CoL, simply login to ​Moodle​ , go to ‘My Courses’ and select ‘Centre of Learning’.

Career Development Centre

Find out about the extra services that the ​MIT Career Development Centre​ provides to help you get career focused. The Career Development Centre runs week workshops on-campus and I encourage you to attend these workshops. For more details on these workshops, please refer to the Events and Activities webpage.

Peer mentor program

At MIT we understand sometimes you might feel more comfortable seeking one-to-one coaching on a unit of study from a peer rather than additional support from your lecturer. A ​peer mentor ​will share with you how they have achieved their own academic success; provide help with understanding the unit, completing assessment tasks and preparing for exams
