MIT’s Student Career Framework

Student Career Framework

MIT’s Student Career Framework has been designed to create student employability skill development opportunities throughout the student lifecycle using e-learning modules, micro credentials, and recognition through the MIT’s Global Community+ program. The framework integrates the link between in curricular and co-curricular development experiences throughout the student lifecycle:

  • Career Learning Pathway (CLP) - In curricular
  • Transition - Building Block 1 – Creating a Professional Identity
  • Transform - Building Block 2 – Become Industry Ready – WIL Preparation
  • Advance - Building Block 3 – Job Ready

Aims

The Student Career Framework is based on best practice methodology providing a service across four core competences: Professionalism, Knowledge competence, WIL preparation, and Career Confidence. The aims of the Student Career Framework are to:

  • Create opportunity for students to gain the necessary soft skills to create and maintain a professional profile throughout their career.
  • Provide tailored career skill development for students throughout the student lifecycle identified through the Framework Stages: 1) Transition, 2) Transform and 3) Advance.
  • Prepare students to make the most of their technical skill competence by maximising the opportunity of the WIL components in their course through the introduction of a preparatory module.
  • Combine students knowledge, experience and new found skills with confidence to accelerate their career opportunities.

Measurable Outcomes

One of the most considerable changes made in this revised framework is introducing key measurable outcomes, testing students on the skills they have acquired and rewarding them for their progress. This is managed through the use of the Moodle learning platform with embedded self-paced learning modules, record keeping in the AMS for individual career consultations and real time feedback on experiential opportunities with the integration of the GC+ program.
