Congratulations on your acceptance to study with us. We are thrilled that you are joining us and invite you to attend your orientation program as your first step to success.

About orientation week
O’ Week is held before the start of every new term. It’s a week which we aim will be one you’ll never forget and is your opportunity to get involved in a range of events and discover the skills and information you need to be successful in your studies. You’ll meet your Course Coordinators, academics, support staff and learn more about your study expectations and MIT Systems. It’s also a great opportunity to make new connections and begin new friendships.
During the orientation week
- Learn about the support services at MIT
- Meet current students and be paired with a buddy
- Get to know the campus with a tour
- Enrol in units and receive your timetable
- Meet the academic and administrative staff who will support you as you choose units and courses
- Receive your Student ID card and computer account processing
Essentials for the day
Please bring the following documents with you on the orientation day. If you fail to submit these documents, you may not be able to enrol.
You will require:
- Confirmation of Enrolments (CoE)
- Original or certified copy of Passport.
- If wanting to apply for credit transfer: course structure, unit syllabus and official original academic qualification, transcripts from your previous studies.
- Conditional documents (please check your offer letter for conditional documents required during enrolments.)
Important: if your offer is conditional, you must provide the requested document before enrolment.

The Academic Integrity Module (AIM100) is a compulsory is zero credit point online unit that is a hurdle requirement of all MIT courses. Dr Tasmiha Tarafder will be running this workshop in the labs.

You will be given an appointment card indicating the date and time for starting your enrolment. This process includes obtaining your student ID card, meeting with your Course Coordinator to obtain your study plan and setting up your timetable. Day 4 – Friday 30th August 2024

Join us for a fun and engaging one-day tour of Melbourne, designed to help you discover the city’s most iconic landmarks and vibrant culture. We’ll start at Federation Square, explore the famous street art in Hosier Lane, and visit key sites like Flinders Street Station, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the State Library of Victoria. Enjoy a tasty lunch at Queen Victoria Market, stroll through the beautiful Carlton and Fitzroy Gardens, and learn about Melbourne’s rich history and diverse community. This tour is a great way to meet new friends and get to know your new home. Wear comfortable shoes, bring your curiosity, and get ready to fall in love with Melbourne!

How will I be notified about Orientation details?
Commencing students will be emailed when the Orientation program is available, and the website will be updated.
Do I have to attend the orientation?
Orientation attendance is compulsory.
You're encouraged to participate in other sessions such as campus tours, info sessions and academic workshops to help you get the best start to your studies. There are also a variety of activities where you can meet your academics and student leaders, get to know other new people, and participate in social events.
Do I have to register to attend orientation?
Yes, registration is required.
What happens at orientation?
Orientation is an opportunity to begin developing academic and co-curricular goals, make networks with other students, learn about campus resources, discuss your academic goals, and enrol in subjects for your first trimester. This is your opportunity to start putting your academic plan into action and learn about everything MIT has to offer you. Refer to the orientation schedule for more information.
What information will be covered at orientation?
Orientation marks the start of your college studies and for most courses it is held the week before trimester classes start.
The program is designed to familiarise you with the College life, and the services and resources available on each campus and online. By attending Orientation, you gain critical course and faculty information, plus essential information on the support we offer. This is also your opportunity to meet and socialise with fellow student plus academics and all the support staff that are ready to help you along the way.
We strongly encourage that all new students attend orientation.
Will I be able to enrol in classes the same day I attend my orientation?
No, you will be allocated an appointment to enrol in your program on Day 2 or Day 3.
Do I need to bring anything to orientation?
Yes, you must bring the following documents to enrol:

How do I get to the campus for Orientation?
We encourage all staff and students to choose sustainable transport options to access Campus Facilities. There are many options, including public transport, car-pooling, cycling or walking.
Is parking available?
Onsite parking is not available at MIT campus; however, car parking stations are nearby for a fee.
What do I do if I join MIT after the start of classes?
If you were unable to attend O Week from 26th August, we run a ‘Late Orientation’ session on week three which you need to attend. There are also plenty of online resources you can explore at https://moodle.mit.edu.au as with most things, nothing replaces F2F communication.

Getting to your campus
Melbourne Campus
MIT Melbourne campus is located at the historical - Argus Building at 288 La Trobe Street, on the corner of Elizabeth and La Trobe Streets. Entrance is via the La Trobe Street side.

The MIT Sydney campus is located in Sydney’s Central Business District (CBD) next to Darling Harbour, one of the city’s largest shopping, food and entertainment precincts. Located right in the heart of the City on Sussex Street, easily accessible by train- we are a few minutes’ walk from Wynyard and Town Hall stations.
