Do I need to submit a research proposal?

In the first year, students complete research training coursework units. This allows you time to develop your research project before beginning your thesis. Unlike some degrees, there’s no need to submit a research proposal upfront. You’ll submit two theses in the second year.

How do I choose my research topic?

Choose a research topic that aligns with your passions and career goals. Whether you're interested in cryptocurrency, AI, or family business dynamics, we'll help you shape a project that's achievable and impactful.

Will I be able to work while I study?

Research degrees allow students to work full-time during their studies, with no restrictions on work hours.

Please note different visa types have different work requirements. Visit the Australian Government's Department of Home Affairs website to check you are working in accordance with your individual visa requirements.

What is the duration of the post-study work visa for international students after completing a research degree?

Students who complete research degrees can access an extended three-year post-study work visa on completion of their studies. This is one year longer than the visa offered for completion of bachelor's and master's by coursework programs. It allows you time after you graduate to gain experience in your chosen field.

When can I start a research degree?

Research degrees begin in March, July or November each year.

Are part-time options available for research master’s degrees?

No, this course is not available to study part-time.

Does this degree require study on-site?

You are required on site during the first year. In the second-year, you have flexible options for meeting out of office hours or virtually, depending on agreement with your research supervisor.
