Student Experience Committee

The Student Experience Committee is a standing committee of the Board of Directors. The Student Experience Committee will provide oversight and review of MIT’s student experience strategies to the Board and consider and make recommendations on improvements to the student experience and such other related matters referred to it by the Board.

The functions of the Student Experience Committee include the following:

  1. Informed by relevant reports, including student and graduate satisfaction, student academic outcomes and other forms of student feedback, to advise and make recommendations to the Board concerning the student experience, including:
    1. student amenities, services and support;
    2. MIT policies in relation to student life;
    3. interventions and strategies to enhance graduate outcomes and the overall student experience;
    4. student learning and development needs; and
    5. monitoring and mitigating identified and potential risks to students.
  2. To be engaged in the improvement of the student experience for all students of MIT.
  3. To provide avenues for all students to provide feedback and make recommendations to the Student Experience Committee.

A quorum will be: half of the members if the number of members (including vacancies) is even; or a majority of members if the number of members (including vacancies) is odd. In the case of a tied vote the Chair has the casting vote.

The Group General Manager will appoint a secretary who will be responsible for distributing the agenda and papers to members prior to meeting sand recording, preparing and distributing the minutes of each meeting. The agenda and papers for meetings will be distributed to members at least 5 working days in advance of any meeting. Minutes of each meeting will be available for ratification by the Chair no later than 5 working days after each meeting. Unconfirmed minutes will be distributed to members after approval by the Chair for confirmation at the next meeting.

These Terms of Reference may be reviewed from time to time by the Board of Directors.

The Board will appoint the Chair of the Committee, who shall be a Board member.

The Student Experience Committee meets no less than four times annually, and reports to the Board as soon as possible after each of its meetings. The Chair may convene a special meeting at any time with reasonable notice.
